Mr. Deetz conducts valuations of business interests, intangible assets, private equities and fixed income securities—primarily mortgage backed securities and related derivatives. Mr. Deetz’s recent valuation work includes engagements for a European Central Bank’s asset purchases from a large multi-national bank; assisting U.S. insurers’ (monoline and multiline) analyses of their portfolios of exposures to, among others, European continental banks; and, with other Navigant experts, assisting an administrator of a failed U.K. hedge fund on the value of credit default swaps and other fixed income securities. In addition, Mr. Deetz has recently valued a U.S. Government Sponsored Entity Bank as to its real estate and structured finance assets, regulatory equity, and the fair value of its stakeholders’ equity.
Mr. Deetz specializes in accounting standards guidance, forensic accounting, valuation, securities litigation, claims and dispute matters, and expert witness testimony for clients and counsel in commercial, regulatory and tax controversy matters. He provides accounting, valuation, business, economic and financial analyses on behalf of clients involved in a variety of disputes. Mr. Deetz regularly consults on GAAP and GAAS matters such as financial reporting, auditing standards and the application of due professional care. He provides opinions and testimony on these matters to clients before the Securities and Exchange Commission and in civil litigation. His experience also includes engagements related to securities litigation, contract claims, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty, minority shareholder actions, and federal tax controversies.
Prior to joining Chicago Partners, Mr. Deetz was a director with LECG, LLC. He has also held the position of managing director of strategic valuation services with Arthur Andersen, and the partner in charge of valuation and litigation support services with Noell Deetz Agnew & Morse, and with Stoughton Davidson.
